Twin spring

Since some time between xmas & new year I have been running the twin spring top in my L1 at home

The good news is it doesnt tip my machine, although it is a tank version, i suspect it will tip a plumbed in L1 but am about to discover that

But im afraid it means death to my beloved single origin roasts; it simply kicks all the body out of them and they taste as if they have been prepared on a pump machine

It may yield more favourable results on a blend, or a blend that includes robusta, i simply do not know yet as i havent tried

The greatly increased pressure at the end of the extraction gives a puck that is instantly so dry that it is ridiculous

You will also find that you need to jam the portafilter on with much more vigour – i needed to move from the 6 o’clock position to the 5 o’clock position to effect a seal, otherwise you have more water coming down the outside of the portafilter than you have going through the basket

I will start passing it around, but you can rest assured that it will not be making its way onto our standard build or option list

If people really want it I am happy to offer it as an after market part, but the price will be close to £500 plus VAT if applicable. It will be sold on a strictly no return basis as we have absolutely no use for them and it is impossible to warrant that it will give ‘such & such a taste’ – it is simply far too subjective

If you are working on the principle that two of anything must be better than one you may be a little disappointed
