A customer suggested to me in language plain that the 4mm ‘L-shaped’ metal hex key we include with the L1 isn’t really in keeping with the machine. Well, its true i suppose, however the cheap & cheerful ‘L-shaped’ steel hex key that ships with the L1 will get the job done
You may wish to upgrade to a ‘T-shaped’ hex key like the one shown above. This is an insulated version for electrical applications, but it does give some protection against scratching the chrome plating on the group if you are careless. Obviously the hex key is 4mm and the distance from tip to the shoulder where the head of the ‘T’ commences is 130mm. I am hoping this distance is sufficient to clear the bottom of the group – I’ll find out soon enough
If you are into cycling you probably already own such a tool. Anyway, for anyone who was unaware of their existence, ‘T-shaped’ hex keys are also available. The primary benefit is they allow you to turn the screw continuously, rather than a 1/2 or 1/4 turn that the ‘L-shaped’ hex keys limit you to when fitting the 4 hex screws to the top half of the group on the L1
