Go and see Coolgales
Some years ago when I purchased some equipment from a shop on the high street I was bitterly disappointed how murky the sound was when I got it home and I ditched the lot before the weekend was through
Then I found Coolgales with google and gave them a call (they are in Bath, England)
I was particularly concerned about being sold more than what I needed for my purposes – I’m no audiophile, its not my hobby, i just wanted clear crisp sound, very much entry level stuff for these guys
Its very easy to get oversold in this position where there is a high degree of asymmetry in knowledge – by definition you need someone you can trust because your ignorance sticks out a mile, so you are a very soft target for the unscrupulous
Coolgales got me to bring along the equipment that I would connecting their speakers and amp to, and also my own music, then we kept swapping components until I heard the sound quality that I found acceptable (barely off the bottom of their range) and met my budget
The equipment I bought from them is over 6 years old now, and I’m still enjoying it as much as the first time I turned it on, which i think is what value for money is all about
I couldn’t recommend Coolgales highly enough if you are into this sort of thing, and if I ever want to add to what I have I will return to Coolgales
