This has been a story of misery for some time, but thanks to a very competent Frenchman in Paypal Merchant Services’ technical helpline I now have a full explanation
We use Paypal Merchant Services to securely process our transactions
If you select ‘pay by debit/credit card’ in our checkout you will discover that you are unable to pay by Amex
However, there is a work around i have finally discovered, however illogical it seems to me, but here goes…
IF you want to pay by AMEX:
Select Paypal (not Credit/debit card) as the payment method on our checkout screen
You will be taken to the Paypal website
Once on the Paypal website if you look around you will find a small link that says click here if you want to pay by debit or credit card
Click that link
You will then be able to pay by AMEX
Go figure!
So you can pay by AMEX if you pay from within the Paypal site, but not if you stay on our site and try to pay directly with an AMEX
Such is the world we live in!
I hope this is of benefit to someone as ive lost a few hours getting to the bottom of this today
