just a short note to say how impressed i am with the customer support from Bart at Precision boatworks in Florida, USA as they too have been subject to a campaign of internet slander in the past – its always an ‘expert’ isnt it?
i didnt purchase my boat from Precision boatworks, i purchased it secondhand here in New Zealand
i have ordered a large box of bits from them so i can replace some parts that are missing (the cooler box) or are showing their age (the spreader collar)
there has been none of the usual ‘oh gosh New Zealand isn’t in the USA is it’ resistance that i have encountered before with other products
its just a clean simple, price it up and this is what it will cost you to ship it to New Zealand – its great
for anyone who is after a boat that gives you a lot more room than a dinghy, but is still incredibly light (under 1000lbs, including the trailer) and as a result easy to tow even behind a small vehicle (i am using a 1300cc Toyota Yaris! – can you believe it?) and easy to rig and launch even on your own then you should consider the Precision 185
its fast, with a simple modern rig, without bringing the additional complexity of features like a trapeze
i also enjoy fishing so it provides a large open platform for fishing too
yachting has become perceived as a poor excuse for a sport, and merely a means for the idle rich to fill in time between parties
this is a great shame, you can make yachting as expensive as you like, but if you go about it the right way you can still own a boat on a budget
for me personally i would only ever have a boat that i can house, so this Precision 185 was the largest thing i could squeeze into my workshop. this ensures that she is secure and when i polish her up she will stay looking spick and span for some time – boats out in the weather deterioate fast
