have we got news for our detractors who think we got the design of the L1 wrong. all they’ve done is show us how little they know about thermosiphon driven lever groups. clue: the L2 has a cold water feed to the heat exchanger
now that we have the L2 to test alongside the L1 it completely vindicates our decision to use a hot water feed on the L1; thats why the L1 is ready to pull the first shot in less than 10 minutes. we’ve used lever machines exclusively since our inception in 2004, starting with the humble la pavoni home espresso lever machine. we are still learning, but we’re amused at all the self appointed lever experts that have suddenly appeared out of no where to knock the project
we quietly took our time and discovered that a short flush is all that is required immediately after a shot and the LONDINIUM series of lever machines are as thermally stable as any other espresso machine architecture. sometimes it takes a long time to get to the bottom of an issue, but it is only in doing so that a simple and effective solution can be found; a 60mL flush after you pull your shot
we don’t see this issue as specific to LONDINIUM lever machines, but rather no one has ever released this data before for other thermosiphon driven lever machines. if you know of any thermosiphon driven lever group that doesn’t exhibit this behaviour then do send us your data because we think it is as rare as rocking horse poo
LONDINIUM I customers enjoy exceptional espresso in an easy and straight-forward manner and the ability to self service which is critical unless you live near the authorised service dealer for one of the trick PID machines from Synesso/Slayer/La Marzocco/etc, no need for specialist tools or factory trained servicemen
for the record, manufacturers didn’t move away from lever groups because pump machines gave better espresso; they moved to electric pump espresso machines for the usual reason – pump machines are LESS EXPENSIVE to manufacture
with a good lever espresso machine you get exceptional espresso for decades combined with very low cost of ownership. lever espresso machines may not be for everyone, thats fine. but if you are interested in lever machines you owe it to your yourself to try a LONDINIUM lever machine today
expect to see the LONDINIUM III in Q4 2013
