Hoping to have a finished Londinium I for you to come & try next week

we will post here as soon as it is available

new Londinium tampers, now made in England, will also be available soon. we are changing to a different coloured hardwood so it will match the wooden handles on the Londinium lever espresso machines and we’ve decided we want them to be a golden colour, rather than the very dark brown that they currently are. the new tampers will be available in 58.0mm only

beeswax cream arrives tomorrow, and has such a wonderful smell that it is guaranteed to bring out any latent obsessive compulsive disorder in anyone who likes caring for real hardwood – you’ll be looking for other items around the house to try it out on so pleasant is the smell, and pleasing the result. again, the beeswax is completely made in England, and we have checked that it is not subject to agricultural import restriction for places like australia

i’ve had to make some concessions to the appearance of Londinium I to ensure the machine still looks sharp in 20 years time – i.e. I wanted to make the top of the machine black powder coat with a rough ‘cast iron’ finish, but I have bowed to Adrian’s years of experience in seeing how countless different machines have aged, and so I have very reluctantly accepted that it must be stainless steel on top. stainless steel will pick up scratches over time, its true, but it doesn’t look tatty when it does

the powder coat we use won’t chip – they use it on the grab rails of London’s underground tubes and buses where it receives an absolute hiding, but a black finish with white ceramic snail trails where cups have been dragged around on top is not cool and very difficult to completely restore, short of replacing the top plate. this is exactly the kind of thing we don’t want

we’ve got some other tricks too but those can wait
