one of the things i learnt from my time in England was a different way of looking at the world
in the new world there is great emphasis put on speed and bustle and tied to that, responding to every scenario with some kind of postive action
one of the big things i learnt from working with people in the City of London was that doing nothing is not only a strategy, but it is also often the best course of action
people in the new world might sneer at this and say typical POMEs, stand around and pontificate whilst the colonies get in and make things happen, but that isnt quite what is meant
the difference in approaches is quite marked and i have very much learnt the wisdom of ‘doing nothing’ as the best course of action
there are countless examples that could be used to illustrate the point, but in my own case the return home to new zealand meant walking away from the loins share of my coffee roasting customers
i have re-established the roastery here, but as i have observed the roasted coffee business evolve it is clear that you need to be pretty cute with your thinking if you want to differeniate yourself from the herd
we are currently hamstrung to an extent with the limitations of our website to cope with multiple shippers from multiple locations for multiple products
but rather than tear into it an force the schedule i have decided that for the moment we are going to do nothing
the status quo is good and as we run our coffee stocks down we look to take our coffee roasting offering in a different direction – one thing you can be assured of; we we be seeking to purchase green coffee of even higher quality than what we currently have. the interesting piece to the puzzle is how we package our offering so we arent just another of the now countless coffee roasters out there
doing nothing really is often the best strategy: just sit tight and see how things develop, then be ready to respond quickly
