We’ve taken our time before arriving at a grinder that we recommend for the L1
We conclude that the Compak E8 is our recommended grinder for the L1 and variants, and it is even suitable for the L2 in environments that are only moderately busy
The Compak E8 is priced at a point that whilst it will still be considered a lot of money for a domestic grinder, and it is, in my view it stops short of recommending a grinder at a higher price point which i am uncomfortable with simply on the grounds that it opens us up to ridicule
So of course the E10 is a faster and quieter grinder, but i think it is at a price point that opens us up to ridicule when many of the people taking the advice will be looking for a top end grinder for the home. Purely in terms of the taste in the cup the differences between the E8 and E10 are very small
Compak E8 takes you far up and beyond the Mazzer Super Jolly level and in our opinion is a clear winner over the Mazzer Major electronic (also 83mm flat burrs)
As our recommended grinder you can expect to see us offer it in both 240V and 120V versions at some point in the future as we are quite serious about putting our weight behind it now that we have settled upon it
