Compak E8 with red speed lucidite burrs

my expectation of this grinder, based on the information available on the Compak website, was that the red speed burrs had simply been case hardened by heat treating

from the very first grind it was apparent there was a lot more to it than that; bear in mind that i have owned a K10Fresh, an E10, and an E8 prior to the arrival of the E8redspeed

from the first flick of the switch it was significantly quieter than the standard E8, not just a theoretical difference, but an obvious significant, wow! that’s quiet difference

at this point revisited the Compak website and took a closer look. yes, the red speed burrs arent just case hardened, they are a completely different burr profile!!!

without the breaker burr profile they are quieter, a little bit slower (not in spindle speed which is unchanged, but in terms of grams per second output), and best of all a far superior grind and a far superior distribution of those grounds in the basket

just how much better is that distribution i hear you ask? good enough that you no longer need to use a wire whisk to redistribute the grounds before tamping to ensure a single central pour cone

if you’ve tried an E8 but not an E8 redspeed you owe it to yourself to try it as they output completely different coffee grounds; the only thing that is the same is the ‘E8’ bit – other than that the redspeed variant is a completely different product

the E8 redspeed is the best grinder in the world at and around its price point. make sure your next grinder move is the right one: E8, redspeed.
