one shortcoming of all bean to cup/fully automatic espresso machines is they have a pre-programmed option for a long black/Americano
this is produced by the machine simply pumping more water through the coffee
this is not the way to do it as it results in unpleasant solubles from the coffee in your cup after the desirable solubles have been extracted
instead, place your cup under the steam wand and turn on the hot water mode
turn off the hot water soon enough to ensure there is room for you to add an espresso on top
move your cup under the group and hit the espresso button
now you will have a long black/americano that tastes significantly better
